I was wondering how much teacher time these books use. We are currently using SWO with my ds in 3rd grade, and his spelling is terrible. I am using AAS, but we only do this once or twice a week, because it is SO teacher intensive. I need another book to do on the "off" days that he can pick up and do by himself.
Your suggestions are appreciated.

Teacher time: virtually none.
About once every 2-3 weeks we take 5 minutes to look over the next word list/unit to discuss what the new pattern is and why it works/how it is used.
About once a week there is an exercise that requires the teacher to dictate a word or syllable list to the student. (takes maybe 5 minutes)
And then you grade the workpages -- maybe 1 minute per page to grade it/check it over.
It takes my struggling speller only 5-10 minutes to do a page a day out of Megawords, and it has been a GREAT solo spelling supplement! Warmest regards, Lori D.

I am using thins with a 3rd grade ds who is a terrible speller. It takes no prep but you have to dictate to the child during the lesson and listen to him sound out words. It's very easy but it does take about 10-15 minutes per day. On the plus side, I really think it's a fabulous spelling program for a spelling impaired child. I myself am a poor speller and I have an older child who also can't spell. I've tried several different spelling approaches and curriculum and Apples and Pears is my favorite.

As stated, there is no teacher prep, but I must present the lesson to DS each day. It usually takes around 10 minutes or so. I split each lesson into two days work, as they are too long for my DS.
Great spelling program for kids who really struggle. It's the first program that has actually made a difference for my dyslexic son.
