Although her sprinkling of R-rated humor affronted my delicate sensibilities, I still enjoyed the book.
I, too, have many times wished to take a black Sharpie to signs and banners I've seen.
I do confess that I am still foggy concerning the more complex rules regarding commas. My solution has always been to completely rewrite the sentence in a way that does away with my need to figure out the correct punctuation.
I'm sure my posts on this board will still be full of wrongly used puctuation and poor grammar. But, I'm not editing or writing for posterity on here. It's a conversation - not a dissertation.
(Oh, and, yes, I know this book came out six years ago. But, I've never read it.)
