anyone visited or have a child at Knox College?

My son received his acceptance today, along with a music scholarship (and entrance into the music program) from Knox. This is the first non-local school we've heard from, and I'm a little stunned. I think I have been in denial about the possibility that my son might actually choose to go to one of those schools far, far away. I don't have a mental picture of Knox, only what I vaguely remember from the book Colleges That Change Lives. I was hoping to hear from folks who have seen the campus or have a child there. I am especially interested to hear what you might know about the music program.

Basically we're waiting, still, to hear from my son's first choice and to hear about whether he will be offered tuition remission with the National Tuition Exchange program. It's so strange to have a handful of yeses! Strange and wonderful. (In my radio brain, I'm singing, I didn't ruin him! I'm so relieved! :D)

I'm afraid that I can't tell you much, except that I looked at it for my son, too. Everything I've read/heard about it has been good. It would have been a little odd for my son, as the name of the school is the same as his name.....

That's funny. I had a friend whose last name was Milton, lived on Milton Road in Milton, Washington.

It cracked me up that we got an envelope with huge purple letters: OPPORTUNITY KNOX! But it would not be so funny, I suppose, if it were your name. ;)

And get this! I was so flustered and excited that I had to reread the letter several times before I realized that he has already been offered the 30K tuition exchange deal! I was so stuck on the bolded words Performing Arts Scholar in Music that I didn't even see that humongous number!

My dh lived in Galesburg, IL for a few years after college. The town is nice and quaint. If you ever go to visit there, you have to eat at The Landmark Cafe - incredible spinach bisque, sandwiches, coffee, and ice cream crepes. I miss that restaurant. As for the college, it's a good small liberal arts school. He doesn't really know anything about the music dept though.

I have a cousin who went there--I think she was a math major after having gone to the Illinois Math & Science Academy. I also had a graduate student who worked for me and had gone there. He was a history major and really enjoyed it. My husband also had several classmates who went to school there (Knox is about an hour from where he grew up). I have had some contact with librarians on their campus through my work. Sorry that I can't comment specifically on their music program.

Oh, good! Thank you. The only folks I know or know of, personally, left Knox after just a year. And, get this! A friend wrote me:

Knox college? A friend of mine went there for a year and her roommate claimed to be one of the 7 true vampires of the world. Interestingly, two other people on campus claimed the same thing. So...apparently their recruiter for vampires is kicking ass.

I am thinking that since, with the Twilight craze it's probably totally passe to recruit vampires, they've perhaps moved on to other un-dead creatures? And how can we know? :D

So, yes, relieved to hear that you have experience with people who enjoyed the school.
