I *finally* went to the mw yesterday. The appt went well. I don't do well w change, & so I was a little concerned that she'd moved to a new location, lol. But it was beautiful--across the street from a huge park w a pond & ducks, etc. And she's one of those people that you love & then you think, "O come on, could she really be that great?" And you try to find someone else because it's the responsible thing, and then you *see* her again, & you know. She's that great.

And it's nice, too, because I'm REALLY shy, & after 3 babies, I can pretty much tell her what I think about stuff. We can joke w ea other & it's not awkward. Kwim?

Anyway, it was nice to hear the heartbeat. I think I'm always kind-of in denial until then. Dd4 laughed at me though, saying, "Well *I* knew you were pregnant!"

Then I had to have labwork done, & ds7 wanted to stay in the room. He was kind-of making me feel claustrophobic, so I kept telling him gently that he could go play again. (They'd come in to hear the heartbeat.) He looked at me w great concern, & said, "I want to stay to comfort you while she takes your blood." How could I say no to that? So I found him a place to sit *still.*

(((Aubrey))) yeah!!! You found your midwife!!!!!
I found mine too. The first one we went to was a little too Christian (not bashing - my best friend is very Christian AND votes for Bush - but she is very open minded to MY crazy brand of religion or non-religion.) Anyway, I thought the Christian midwife (who knew NOTHING about herbs - even red rasberry leaf!!!) would have a heart attack if I suddenly started chanting or calling the goddesses.....

But I found a little petite Jewish midwife who knows all about herbs and has a very diverse group of patients. I think she can handle my weird "religion."
I told my boyfriend that you pretty much know immediately when you meet the right one. And I knew in 15 minutes after meeting Alanna that she was mine.

Are you doing homebirth?

I love your son!!!!

When are you due?

Oh, that's great that you have someone with whom you are so comfortable. I didn't use a midwife, but I had the most fabulous Ob/gyn who stayed right with me for 2.5 hours of pushing for my first baby, and came in to deliver my second baby even though her partner was on call that day because she knew it was really important to me to have her be there. It makes such a huge difference to have someone you really are happy with. And your ds is just so sweet! You have to love that comfort.

Well, it sounds like we're using the same mw. Mine is a little petite Jewish woman w a lovely British accent & a great deal of openness to various religious points of view. Actually, our conversations crack me up.

She's given up suggesting yoga to me, she says. Every time I go. "Now I know you're not a yoga person, so I won't suggest that. Although it's really helpful." I think she associates my rejection of yoga with religion, although it's really just that I rarely try something new, lol.

So w/ #3, my dad had just died, & she was trying to think of things to suggest for that problem. So she starts telling me about going to see a medium & how helpful that was. I couldn't help it. I laughed right there in the office. I told her that she knew me better than that--if I wouldn't try yoga, I wasn't going to try a medium. She thought about it & laughed, too.

I think w #1 we didn't really get ea other's humor. For ex, yesterday when she was getting ready for my labs, she couldn't find a bandaid. At last, she said, "Oh well. You don't get a bandaid." I pouted & asked, "Do I at least get some *tape*?" Oh, sure, she said. I think I even have a bandaid in the car, in my homebirth kit.

Oh, that's fine, I was just kidding, I told her. Really? she asked. Yes, I laughed. Oh, good, she laughed too. Because I'm not really sure I have a bandaid in the car.
She used to take me very seriously, but it's nice now that she knows I'm not as uptight as I come across.

Yes; me, too; 8/8/08--she let me pick.;) (I think it was really 8/9 or 8/7, but I told her how neat the 8/8/08 would be, & she agreed.)
