do you leave a reputation point for the person who answered it?

I try to. Sometimes I forget...or am out of rep points.

I do too (if I can)- but a question-- is it tacky to leave your name??

I hope not! I always leave my name and I like it when people leave their name. It lets me know with whom I'm connecting, kwim?

I'm always running out of rep points too (I wish we were allowed more).

And, I leave my name, if I don't forget. I think it's nice too.

No, I think it's friendlier :)

I don't think so at all. I always leave my name and I love it when people leave theirs for me. I like to know who my buddies are. Also, you know how the little box says (more or less) "If you're lucky that person will return the favor"? Well, if they don't leave their name I can't return the favor. And I'd like to if I can. (That is, if I can remember, because sometimes it's hard to.)

I have never given any rep points. Honestly, I don't know how to give them and would rather just reply with a Thanks.

You just go the top of the box you're looking at now, click on the little scale symbol in the right hand corner, and then leave a nice comment for me after you check off "approve." That's all! http://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/rofl.gif (http://www.welltrainedmind.com/forums/%5Bimg%5Dhttp://pages.prodigy.net/rogerlori1/emoticons/rofl.gif%5B/img%5D)

I try to! Like others have said, sometimes I'm out of rep, or I've given rep to that poster too recently to do it again. I also like seeing the names.... but you know what? I really like seeing the gray reps. The reps from posters who haven't been around long enough to have their reps count. Somehow those have a special meaning, because it usually means someone who doesn't post often thought what I had to say was worthy enough to give me a rep.

I like giving rep. It's just that added *extra* way of showing someone that their post really meant something to me.

I don't even care about squares or points... it's just nice to know when someone took something away from your personal experience, or appreciated something you had to say. :)

Yes! That's what it's for. :)

Oh, yes!

Here's an excerpt from something I wrote on the "how to and test posting" board:

I think there are a lot of ways a post could be worthy.

When someone posts a really useful list or link, or factual answer, they've added some really valuable content to the boards and made this a more useful resource for many people.

When someone is really kind or gracious or giving, they are both enhancing the atmosphere and setting an good example for the kind of community we're trying to have here.

When someone handles conflict with grace and integrity, when s/he articulates a position with passion and eloquence and yet remains respectful and kind, s/he is following in SWB's illustrious footsteps and is part of what makes these boards so special.

Those are the things which come to mind now -I know I have thought of others - but, basically, if you see a post and feel it is building up the community in some way, then, imho, positive rep is in order. I think it is a small way to help make these boards an even more special and positive place.

I do, but if I've run out I might have to wait a day or two. I sign my name because it's nice to know who it's from.

I try not to dish out rep willy-nilly; I use it to genuinely thank someone for helping or encouraging me, or to let someone know I particularly agreed with or appreciated a post. But it seems like I'm constantly out of rep ~ and then, too, there's the v-e-e-e-ry long wait after repping someone before being allowed to do so again. (Which is what I encountered when I tried to give you some positive rep earlier tonight, Dawn!)

I just was trying to leave everyone some reputation points, but I've ran out. :glare: I'll try again later.

I ran out yesterday so quickly. There are so many good posts, it's hard not to run out after a couple hours.

How many reps can we give in a day? Sometimes I think of giving approval to a post or person, but I have several windows open at once and want to "save" my rep, just in case.

Then I forget to go back.

Yes, I always give rep points when people have good posts. And I am continually running out of power to rep. I keep a list in word of the people and posts that I want to give rep to so that I can go back as soon as I get my rep abilities back. In the meantime I usually send them a PM to say thank you. And yes I leave my name. When I get rep I love to know who found my posts valuable, so I figure others would feel the same way.

I try to, but am a huge ditz sometimes and totally forget. Creature of habit here and am used to just typing out a thanks at the end of the post rather than remembering the reps thing. Trying to make sure that I do let the person(s) know that I appreciate their time for the response in one way, shape, or form anyway.

I keep a list too. I try to use up all my rep each day and spread encouragement to others. One of my goals of the time I spend on the boards is to be an encouragement to others. But, like others, I'm always running out. :-)

do you leave a reputation point for the person who answered it?

Yes! And if I'm out of rep for the day, I try to remember to go back but sometimes I forget. And when the same person has two or three posts in a day that I want to rep, the board tells me I've got to spread it around, so I often forget on those.

I do if I can (the system wants to "spread it around" a lot), but I don't leave my name. I like the idea of an anonymous good wish making someone happy.
