I always get confused with titles.

If you were going to say, "Wait until the Emperor hears about this!" would you capitalize emperor or not.

How about if you say, The emperor waited until they were all gone.

Is it capitalized because you are talking about a specific emperor, as opposed to the sentence, "every time there is an emperor of Rome the people are happy." in which emperor is just a vague term?

Help!

If emperor is part of the actual name, like Emperor Akihito then it is capitalized. If used with an article as a common noun (as the second word in the first sentence), then it is not capitalized.
