My kids participated in a district level academic competition yesterday (similar to UIL, but for private schools). We have them competing in the "AA" district with several very competitive private schools in Dallas (because of the date/time choices more than anything, but they enjoy the challenge as well).
My dd in second grade came home with a 5th place ribbon for a creative writing story she wrote. This was her first contest and I am so proud of her for placing!
My ds is in fourth grade and placed in all of his four contests (Number Sense, Mathematics, Spelling, & Music Memory), improving all of his placings from last year. (Most kids there do only one or two, but he wanted to do all 4). What I am most thrilled with is that he was First Place Overall in Music Memory, so he will advance to the state competition for the second year in a row!!! He was in the 4th/5th grade category this year, so it was tough competition.
I'm proud as a peacock today :D.
