We are looking at going on Vacation next week. If plans to go to South Carolina fall through, we are looking at the Creation Science Museum and/or Ketucky horse park.

All 3 kids will go with us. 20ds is more like a 10-12 year old in interests. 11dd is more like an 9 year old and 12dd is more like a 7-8 year old. The girls LOVE horses and anything to do with them.

Has anyone been to either place? Would they hold the interest of our kids? How BUSY are they? I DO NOT like crowds. We like to go at our own pace and maybe stay in one area for a LONG time while just glossing over other areas.

Also, any good ideas for hotels in the Cincinnati or Lexington area? We like one with a free breakfast, needs to have 2 Queen beds, a pool would be nice, must be in a safe area but doesn't have to be fancy--just clean and safe.

When we lived in KY (98 through 2000), we loved going to the KY Horse Park. I think if you have horse crazy kids, they will love it, too. We went multiple times, and enjoyed it every time. There weren't huge crowds, but we did usually go midweek. I recently found a videotape of one of our visits...it was of the parade of breeds (http://www.kyhorsepark.com/sub.php?pageid=14&sectionid=1), where they parade many different breeds of horses into a ring and give a short explanation/description of each. It was fascinating, even many years later and on jumpy home video.

Another great place we always enjoyed visiting was Shakertown (http://www.shakervillageky.org/), which was near Lexington.

I hope you have a wonderful trip!

The Kentucky Horse Park is really great. They have both a Saddlebred Museum (smaller) and The International Museum of the Horse. There's an intro movie about horses that's pretty good (about 20 minutes). There's a Parade of Breeds show twice a day (generally at least some of the horses are different) in which the riders dress in native costume or for a particular time period during which this horse was developed or used. There are horse drawn trolley tours (using the draft horses); a draft horse barn, with several breeds of drafts on display; carriage rides are available at an extra charge; you can take trail rides or ride ponies (for littles) for an extra charge; there's a Parade of Champions show that features some retired racing legends (although John Henry just recently died)....... There's a bunch of stuff to do there. There's a children's playground, too, and you can bring a picnic lunch and eat at a table on the playground if you like.

I'm not sure when their high season starts. It's coming up around either April 1 or April 15, I believe. Prices are less before that starts (you might check their website). They also honor Kroger cards, AAA, etc. for discounts on tickets.

Lexington is pretty safe all over, in general, so any hotel you choose should be okay.

I don't know anything about the Creation Museum, but I believe it's in northern Kentucky, rather than Cincy, so you'd probably want to stay at a hotel in the Covington area.

The only bad thing about next week is that it's spring break here. I'm not sure how busy the horse park will be, but it will probably be busier than it would be when school is in session.

I'd recommend Cincy Museum Center to you, but if they're having spring break next week, too, by any chance, then it will be super busy, as well......

I haven't been myself, but a friend of mine says the Creation Science Museum is really good.:001_smile:

Thanks. It looks like we might hit both of these. If they were closer, I would do the horse park with the girls while DH did the Museum with ds.

We stayed at the Comfort Suites near the Cincinnati Airport and it was less than 10 minutes from the Creation Museum.
The Creation Museum is a must see and include the Planetarium, we skipped that part and I really regret it. We drove in from Minnesota and arrived on a Sat. night, the museum was closed on Sunday so we drove to the Kentucky Horse Park, which was great too, lots to see and do, and then we swung over to Louisville to the Slugger museum and back up to Cincinnati area, nice day trip.
The Comfort Suites (Hebron, KY) were very nice accomodations, with a great hot breakfast. I would definitely recommend them to anyone! And I am very snobbish about hotels, they must be CLEAN!

We really like the La Quinta Sharonville. They have free breakfast and nice clean rooms. If you book online, they also have specials starting at $59 right now for weekends, too, which is a steal.

We loved both the Kentucky Horse Park and the Creation Museum, in different ways of course. It would be a little chilly for the Horse Park, possibly, as it is mostly outdoors.

I don't think it would be too "chilly" for us at the horse park. We are outside with our horses every day for 1-3 hours in temps around zero. We ride when it is in the 20s and here in Michigan we are HAPPY to see 35 and SUN. Today I am having a riding lesson and it will be about 35 this afternoon. We still have 1-2 feet of snow in parts of our yard. We will dress warm though.

I will check out that hotel as well. I found one near the horse park for $63--a comfort inn, I think.
