Rick (her DH) is in the hospital again (3rd time). They have never resolved
what is causing seizures and the anti-convulsive medications have
never been able to control the seizures over these last 13 days. They
ruled out stroke. Last night he lost coherency and the seizures never
stopped all day and continue now. They now think he has a brain
infection. His temperature is starting to spike, and his spinal tap
came back with white blood cells in it. They do not know if it is
viral, fungal or bacterial, but it is serious. They will start I.V.
antibiotics soon.

Please, please, please pray for him.

This is from Diane. They are a wonderful family, please include them in your prayers.

Thanks,
fiddledeedee

I don't know them; but I've so loved their marketing and presentation of their business that I've tried to buy from them whenever they had what I wanted. I respect her recommendations as well.

I'll be praying.

I have benefitted so much from their business and her recommendations, especially when I was a new homeschooler. How scary this must be for their family! I will definitely be praying.

I have some good news, here's my latest update from Diane. Please keep them in your prayers still.

Thank you again so very much for your prayers (and fasting) for
Rick. Today he has made major improvements--miraculous improvements
really! I am so relieved and just want to say thank you so much for
your concern and prayers. They really do matter so much.

Today is the 14th day since he began symptoms. The doctors have
still not settled on a diagnosis, and since they have made 2 wrong
diagnosis so far, they are not eager to say for sure until all the
test results come back and the cultures are finished, but what it
looks like is that he has meningoencephalitis, an inflammation of the
brain and its membranes, the spinal cord and the meninges. This is
both spinal meningitis and encephalitis (a brain infection, otherwise
known as "sleeping sickness"). He didn't start running a fever until
yesterday so the doctors were baffled by his bizarre symptoms and
didn't suspect an infection before, but he was increasingly
incoherent until he was just not there anymore. He is so strong
physically and in such good health that all his tests were coming
back normal and they could not see the cause of his illness. They
have him on 3 powerful I.V. antibiotics: anti-bacterial, anti-viral
and anti-fungal and it seems to be working! His fever is gone, and
although he is still very, very sick, he is improving. His seizures
have ceased and he is no longer agitated and thrashing. He smiles
back at me and focuses his eyes. He even is eating and drinking some.

Rick still doesn't know where he is, and keeps asking me questions
that I answer and then he asks the same question again and again. He
thinks the nurse is Julianna. While his brain is inflamed, he will
continue to be confused. I see so much progress though, that I have
high hopes. He will be in the hospital most of the week yet, as he
is still very sick, but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Yesterday during his neurological tests, he said the year was 1958
after much prodding him to answer and unable to focus his eyes to
look at the nurse asking the question, and today he answers, "it is
2008". That is great progress!

Thank you for your emails too. I read them to Rick and he is
comforted by them. He forgets it all though, and I read them to him
again, and it comforts him again!

We are so blessed! God has heard our prayers and been so good to
us! It is wonderful to have the support of family and friends! I
think it is turning out very well, afterall. I am counting my
blessings!

Love,
Diane

I love their catalogs and the family updates and pictures that they always include. I can actually picture Rick in my head right now. I'm so relieved to find out that he's improving. How scary this must be for all of them. I will keep Rick and their family in prayer. Thank you for sharing this. Prayer works!
