Our educational pursuit this afternoon is watching The Sound of Music in Spanish with Spanish sub-titles. Wow. They're not even close, especially the songs. I was explaining to DS that it is probably because they were done at two different times by two different entities. Someone made the sub-titles from the English film, and someone else dubbed the Spanish from the English film, using a different choice or order of words. Right?
The kids know the movie backwards and forwards in English, so they are following pretty well. They do find it interesting that certain things were left as-is, like the dubbing says "Frauline Maria" while the sub-title says "Senorita Maria."
It would be a lot more helpful for our "education" if the dubbing and sub-titles actually matched.
At least the Latin songs stayed the same!
