View Full Version : WWYD? Feedback on a sale

I bought a book from some one here that has a lot of posts but minimal feedback ratings.

The book that I bought was advertised as "Like New," however the book that I received had the binding broken, pages falling out, marker checks inside and significant shelf wear.

I buy and sell a lot of books. I have noticed that most sellers are honest and accurate, but every now and then one "overlooks" the flaws in their product just to make the sale.

Gosh, I was so annoyed that I've filed a paypal claim, however after thinking for a few (due to a slow internet connection), I'm not so sure what kind of FB to leave. It is possible that they overlooked the condition - although frustrating on my part since I could've spent a few dollars more and bought the book really new.

So, what would you do? What kind of fb would you leave?

I think that sellers are responsible for making sure that the item is as described. I have honestly overlooked things before and have offered a refund or replacement (if possible). Have you asked the seller what he/she is willing to do about it?

You should leave honest feedback, whether it is good or bad; but give the seller a chance to fix the problem before leaving neg. feedback.

It wasn't me, was it? If so, I'd give you a refund. :D

If I were you, I would contact the seller and explain your situation. I would suggest to the seller an option (or two) that would satisfy you.

I.e.,

"Dear Mrs. Seller of Piece of Junk Book,

I received the book but it is not in the condition I expected based on your description of the book as in "Like New" condition. (Put an exact quote or link in here if possible.) In fact, it has tears, marks, broken binding. . . . etc. I can email you photos of the damages if you don't remember the condition of the book.

I am sure this was just an error in your listing, or perhaps you have more than one copy of this book and accidentally sent me the wrong copy? (If that is the case, I'd be happy to accept a replacement copy in Like New condition! Just let me know!)

It will cost me $3.35 to media mail this damaged book back to you. Please refund me my full purchase price plus the $3.35 so I can return it to you. That would be a total of $xx.xx.

If you do not want me to return the book, I would be satisfied with a $y refund to compensate me for the poor condition of the book.

Thanks,
Mrs. Sorry I Bought This Piece of Junk Book From You"

I would allow the seller 7 days from the time you contact her (in PM and email if you have both) before leaving any negative feedback. In many cases, the seller will be more than happy to make it right. If not, then definitely leave negative feedback.

:iagree: Give her a chance to fix it. I've had this happen, but when I contacted the seller she went above and beyond to remedy the issue (she did have two copies of the same book, and mailed the wrong one by mistake).

You need to be honest so that other people will know to be warned. Have you emailed this person and if so what kind of reply did you get. If it was an honest mistake they will want to take care of it for you. It seems to me that would be more than just an oversight though from what you have described.

I am new on here, and am trying to get enough posts to list some for sale items, but that makes me nervous starting out with a 0 feedback rating when stuff like that happens.....
