View Full Version : When does MUS stop having the student "check" their subtraction?

I would probably have my child stop doing the checking if I see that she understands and does the problem correctly. Then have her start again if I see that she is beginning to have problems or make careless mistakes. I also don't want to get in the habit of making sure that she really reads the directions to something (I'm really enforcing this now) then saying, "but, don't do that part." I just don't want that to spill over to any other areas down the road.
So just curious when the new books eliminate that. Or do they at all until pre-algebra?

I can't really answer your question since I assume that you are working in Alpha or Beta and we used the old version of MUS back then. I just wanted to say that MUS has the children do a lot of checks throughout the years. If you have a problem with it, it would be good to figure out how to handle it now.
I would just tell my son that he could skip the checks (or do the odd numbered ones) when I felt he was proficient at the task. If you don't want to do that, I would suggest that you change the directions yourself so that your child can follow them exactly.
