View Full Version : Math for an extremely math loving child?

We've schooled three children (we have eight) so far..... But Rebecca is very, very different from the rest of them. We suspect she has Aspergers but haven't had her evaluated.
She is extremely high functioning academically (socially is a WHOLE other story) and adores math. My other children viewed math as something to be assigned and completed. Rebecca works math problems in her head /aloud throughout the day... She counts herself to sleep and she makes everything into a math problem. She loves "doing" school i.e., workbooks, but has a hard time staying focused, keeping her place, etc.
I'd love to find a very hands-on math curriculum for her little head... And one that is very interactive with me would probably be good for her. Suggestions?

My dd8 which is my suspected aspergers child ...uses abeka. She loves it. She is in math 4 right now and loves how it works. She also has been eyeing her brother's Teaching Textbooks Pre-Algebra...and cant wait to start it. I told her to finish the math 4 then we can go into that tt book. I am not sure what she likes about either program...but they are not really hands on. EIther way...she moves very quickly through them and is very advanced in math! I havent had to teach her much math. She is the one that just "gets it". (very different from my son!)

:iagree::iagree::iagree:
It is definitely hands-on, with a variety of activity types. And so far in level B (1st grade), there is little or no independent work for the child, which is what I wanted in math.

Another vote for RightStart! LOVE it!!
I have an Aspie daughter (9) who loves numbers. She has a very high IQ and was doing multiplication in her head consistently when she was four. Even her OCD revolves around numbers. Anyway, she loves RightStart. I highly recommend it.
