The older one can be obtained used at a much reduced price. Is the newest edition worth the price. Thank you.

Angela,

I haven't compared the old to new editions, but I have compared editions for chemistry and biology. The primary changes are in *look* -- better diagrams and colored pictures. There was very little content change in biology and very mild rearrangment of a couple topics, if I recall. In fact, two boys in my biology lab used the older edition with only a few minor logistical problems. We have the Physical Science 2nd edition but I haven't seen the 1st edition and don't know how much content has changed or been updated.

Also, remember that while you can purchase the older edition for much less, it also has a much smaller re-sale value. And it will probably continue to diminish after the 2nd edition is out and on the re-sale market.

HTH,

and I'm not reinvesting in the newer ones. I really do like the format changes in the 2nd editions, but not enough to spend more money out of our tight budget. I have 3 or 4 dc left to use the books, and I'm sure they'll do fine.

Do you NEED the newest edition? I have to say no, but you might like them much better.
