View Full Version : Looking for websites that sell skirts

I've given up on JC Penny (I ordered some skirts, but they were so restricting I cannot image standing on a chair or something -- I do this often in the kitchen to reach things) and Sears. I don't want pricey places like Coldwater Creek. I'm not paying $50 for a skirt!
I performed a search for modest skirts and came up with a few websites, but I wasn't sure of anyone here had experience with them.
I just want plain, non-dressy mid-calf or longer length skirts. No slits, non-restrictive. Salespersons look at me like I'm crazy when I ask if they have any.
I was watching A Beautiful Mind the other day and just loved the skirts she wore toward the end of the movie (mid-calf).

Have you considered making your own? The current issue of Craft has some really cute skirts you can make yourself. I think they have the patterns up on their website.

All of the following have at least some reasonably priced long skirts.

I'm Muslim, and like you have to search high and low for skirts that you can move around in and that aren't slit up to the thigh! These are a variety of sites; some Muslim, some mainstream, and one Jewish.
Hope you find something useful!

I found some really cute, comfortable skirts at Target last week. They are knee length though (well, depending on your height - I guess!)

Have you checked out their outlet stuff? They really mark stuff down in the outlet. One year I got 9 items for under $100 from their outlet. If you like their stuff just keep checking. Get on their mailing list and they will send you a notice when everything on the site is 50% off as well.

This was my thougt as well. It's easy with a machine if you can figure out the bobbin. For some reason - I have always had problems with them.
Of course....who really has time to sew?
Do you thrift? Church yard sales are good for this too.
Not to sound stereotypical - but Southern Baptists wear those skirts too. If the church I grew up in had a yard sale, there would be nothing BUT skirts. And really nice ones too.....especially if Mrs. Pallas sold her homemade ones. That woman could sew.
Wow. I haven't thought about her sewin' in years.
I miss those days of simple pleasures, no WalMart, no internet, no real traffic at all....of any kind.
ummmmm....excuse me.
Skirts are the in thing right now. Have your tried Lands End, Eddie Bauer, Kohls?

I've found most of my favorite skirts at Goodwill. Seriously! They are usually brands like Old Navy or Eddie Bauer.

Thanks!
Amy in TX, I do have the first link bookmarked.
Others:
I do go to thrift store sometimes, but not lately because it seems I always find one I like but it's too big or too small! I am sure someone my size always comes in right before me and takes them all. :glare:
Knee length is too short, but thank you anyway for taking the time to post.
I really do not want to learn to sew. Now, I could get my aunt in WA to sew for me, but I wouldn't know where to begin in picking out a pattern, finding my size, and buying fabric.
I will check all of the other sites mentioned.

Wow, a link bonanza -- thanks from me too!
I have also bookmarked Sierra Trading Post (http://www.sierratradingpost.com/), partly for their outdoor clothing and party for their tons of "boot" skirts from various sources.
