We are just in the process of finishing up the book Treasure Island . My girls like to see the movies ( if there are any ) of the books after we read . Can anyone recommend a good Treasure Island movie that is as close to the real story as possible and would be alright for a 10 and 8yr old to view ? :lurk5:

It's a little wacky, but we like Muppet Treasure Island. :D Disney's Treasure Planet is kind of fun, a futuristic, space adventure based on Treasure Island. Less like the book than Muppet Treasure Island though.

I really prefer older movies, even if they are a bit cheesy, as a rule. This 50's version had THE long john silver.

The boy who played him, Bobby Discoll, looks alarmingly like hubby, but he died of drugs and dissolution in 1968 and was buried in Potter's Field.

We read it as a family a little over a year ago and then watched two movies. I wish I could remember better the actors or who produced, etc. I do remember that the older movie was the better one. We also watched a newer one with Charleston Heston as Long John (I *think* that's right) and it was TERRIBLE - totally changed the book around. It was crazy.

Hope that helps.
