Looking for other homeschooling families in the Riverview/South Shore area in FL. This is our first year homeschooling (my 9 year old daughter and I) and we have been having difficulty finding other homeschooling families in our area; everyone seems to be in Pinellas County or Tampa. If anyone out there is more local please let me know.

Hi,

We don't live in Riverview anymore (we are in TN now) but I would check out Bell Shoals Baptist Church for their homeschool group. Also, The Crossing Church had one as well. It has been a few years since we were there but I would imagine they are both still going strong. Also check the FPEA's (florida parent education association) website as it should have several listings for your specific area.

Blessings,
Hope

By the way, there are literally TONS of homeschoolers in the Riverview/Brandon area. We lived in Summerfield Crossings and just in that subdivision there were over twenty families.

Thank you for all the information. I live right next to Summerfield so it gives me hope knowing that there are that many near by. There are just so many groups for Tampa, Clearwater and Brandon but there isn't much for Riverview and I really want to keep it local so that we don't have to travel 30+ minutes every time we want to visit a friend. Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

We live in Riverview and we're looking for homeschoolers as well!

I have a 9yr DS, 7yr DD, 6yr DS, 4 yr DS, and 19 mo. DD...and due in 2 weeks, so I've got lots of age groups to choose from!

Are there any other groups besides FISH?

We live right on the outskirts of Riverview and Fishhawk. We would love to find some other homeschooling families. We've taken part in both FISH and BHSF and neither one were a very good fit. FISH really is a good group but, unless you are in the co-op, it is difficult really meeting families. We'd love to find a smaller group.

We have a 12-year-old son and a 7-year-old daughter.

Oh I'm excited to see this thread! I lurk just never have posted yet. We live in Valrico and I have 4 LOs (DS 6, DS 4, DD 2, DD 4 m) I would love to meet another HSing family! We only know one other family in the area. We are not Christian so finding a network has proved pretty much impossible (not that I have a problem with being Christian in the slightest- we're just the odd-man-out secular HSers- we do Bible study we just do not do New Testament as personal conviction. ). I'd love to meet as well.

This has been a long time since your post but I am desperate to talk to families in the Riverview,Fl area as we are looking to relocate from Philadelphia and have an ethnically diverse family from adoption and want to know if Riverview has diversity and if our family will fit here (i.e. my kids will not be the only ones in town who are african american and feel "different" because of it). We also want to homeschool this upcoming year as traditional school is not working for 2 of my kids. So I would love your opinion on what this area is like.

I think Riverview would be fine for you :). It's pretty diverse- as is Brandon. I would say west of Kings Ave is more diverse than east but either wouldn't be awkward.

We are in Brandon and homeschooling for the first time. My DD will be 10 in the fall. I'd love to meet some HS families. We are actually looking for a secular group. The big groups around here seem to all be very Christian/Bible based and it's just not what we're looking for.

It's a pretty diverse area. For example... our gay neighbors have 10 adopted children!

We are relocating to the Riverview area next month, and we plan to home school our LO (2 years old). Any new groups out there that anyone knows of? Perhaps geared toward preschool/elementary age children?
