How many books do your high schoolers read in a school year for literature? I'm not counting biographies for history, etc. Wlould 12 be about right? I'm thinking that broken down that would be one every 3 weeks. Is that too much, too little? This would be for one credit for a literature/composition class, plus of course the composition aspect of it.

This would depend on the books you chose. The books do seem to average around 3 weeks each, but I have also used an occasional longer or more difficult book that required 5-6 weeks. I also sometimes use a few short stories between novels or plays to fill up an odd number of days.
Nine to twelve books for the year is a pretty good average, but a page count is a good way to double-check. I usually aim for 20-30 pages per day for literature (sometimes as few as 12 for a more thought provoking book). You can adjust this up or down to fit your child's needs.
