I researched this a bit and found it is both a Greek and German tradition. My parents of German descent grew up in Baltimore near a very Greek community so I think this is why it was so popular with them. They grew up in the Highlandtown area of Baltimore. It's been fun sharing our family tradition with the fellow Hive members

I so enjoyed reading the posts about it -- it brought back great memories from my childhood (in Baltimore County :001_smile:). I think my husband's family thought I was crazy, but they went along with it. I/they live in Tidewater Virginia -- I guess it isn't a common tradition here.
