We enjoyed doing both Rainbow and Prentice Hall. I think Prentice Hall goes a bit more indepth and requires more writing and thinking. I think the Rainbow material has a faster pace and the labs are much easier to do (because they send you everything you need) We did Rainbow Science first and then all of the Prentice Hall book (we do a lot of science) I am glad me did this, and I feel we are well prepared for highschool level science next year.

Did you all of Rainbow and PH physical in one year or did you take 2 to do it?
OT: What are you going to do for high school sciences?

We did Rainbow in 6th grade and Prentice Hall in 7th and 8th.

We are doing the physics, chemistry, and biology part of Rainbow this year, using PH to pursue areas of interest (my son is fascinated with the periodic table, so we're using Chemical Building Blocks from PH as well...works for us.

Sorry to beat a dead horse....Rainbow is mostly physical science, isn't it? Did you do both parts of Rainbow in 6th, then which topics did you use for 7th and 8th.
I'm just wondering if it would be "terrible" to go "out of order" and do physical in 6th, life science in 7th and earth science in 8th or if I just need to keep it at earth science for 6th, life in 7th and all of Rainbow in 8th.

Linda, this is for 8th grade? What did you do for 6th and 7th?

Yes; we used the Apologia elementary books in 6th and 7th--my son loved the zoology books, so we did those for 7th (I think we did astronomy and ...duh? biology...? or plants? in 6th--sorry, braindead!
