My friend sent me a link to this site. She wanted my opinion. Because it sounds too good to be true, I thought I'd ask if anyone here has tried it. I'll pass along any replies.

All the "interesting" stores in my town sell it. The ones that *won't* sell alli or hydroxycut, I mean.

Not saying that means anything. And that's all I know about it.

Except that it has a *koff koff* interesting name. :D

Where's gardenschooler's smiley, anyhow?

Oh, yeah, that one:

No, but I looked it up on Vitacost (http://www.vitacost.com/Garden-of-Life-FucoTHIN-90-Softgels/pd_section-pr#ProductReviews). There are 71 reviews of it there.

And, anything with a name like that can't be taken too seriously. Plus, you know what they say about anything that sounds too good to be true. ;)

It is legit. My neighbor is on it via her doctor (she's on a dr. approved/watched weightloss plan) and this is what she takes.

I am looking to get on it myself.

Anj, I owe your friend an apology. But, I'm just really glad I'm not in one of my "thread starter replies" modes tonight. Man, that would be a sticky wicket.

Um...

When reading the description on the website, was anyone else struck by first the name of the product (which is pretty obvious, and people do catch that part...) and then the way the description reads like a romance novel? Action, adventure, exotic locale, "climax" that leaves you "satisfied" and yet wanting more?

Puh-lease! If it were legit, WHY would they do something like that? If it really works, it'd be on the shelves with FDA statements and major marketing. Not written up like a cheap romance novel and a... risque name.

There are some strange Docs out there... some recommend things that have been disproven time and again... OR, things that work, but in controversial, unhealthy, temporary ways. *sigh*

The quest for the fountain of youth and magic diet pills will never cease. ;)

Found this on one of the review sites. Take it or leave it?

Editor's comments: Garden of Life has its fans, but we'd be remiss to let the comment about it being a "reputable" company go without drawing attention to the fact that this company and its founder Jordan Rubin has been fined nearly $250,000 by the FTC for making false and unsubstantiated claims about some of its products.

No idea about the product, but the name is great! Hey, forget about the pills, and just "fuco" yourself thin! DH should lose weight too, right?

Sorry, I think my migraine medication is having some sort of adverse effect on me. :001_smile:

Wow--imagine that--you ladies are the ones with dirty minds and my mind never even went "there".. in fact, it's pronounced (as she said to me) "few co" not well.. not what you ladies are saying :)

Or even better-- foo co (I believe that's what the two dots above the U represent).

But not.. ummm.. yeah.. ;)

I'm just going to interject a teeny tiny bit of seriousness (dodging tomatoes as we speak :D). I love Jordan Rubin's products and his books. His philosophy of weight loss, diet, exercise, eating healthy really make sense to me. I've used several Garden of Life products and love them. I can't use them consistently b/c of cost, unfortunately. As to Flucothin...I've not used it yet, so I can't comment on effectiveness at all. I would trust it, though, b/c I do like the other products and Jordan Rubin. As to that negative review...interesting. I didn't know about the fine. But, I would add that most successful, reputable companies that have the spotlight shone on them enough will get in some type of "trouble" eventually, KWIM? It's almost like people are looking for something that isn't there. JMHO. Anyhoo...carry on with the "funnies" b/c I've been having a good laugh! :D

I have a hard time taking seriously any diet that requires you to take hundreds of dollars of supplements a month, as Jordan Rubin's "Maker's Diet" does. This just sounds like his Next Big (Money-Making) Thing. If the Maker's Diet were as successful as he claimed a few years back, this new product would be unnecessary, no?

I'm with Michael Pollan: Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. You may not end up super-skinny, but you're far more likely to be healthy and happy.

Dr. Rubin has a point that our SAD (Standard American Diet) is severely lacking in the vitamins/minerals we so desperately need to stay optimumly healthy. It's harder than ever to eat 100% healthy with today's food. Even the "good" food is tainted with pesticides and other chemicals. I'm constantly outraged at how a company can "ruin" a potentially decent food by adding pretty colors (aka/ food dyes) to it! So, I do agree w/ Plaid Dad in regards to if the Makers Diet worked there wouldn't be a need for all those supplements. BUT, the fact remains that not many people will have the discipline required to actually stick to such a diet when we are surrounded by fast food, processed food, candy, donuts, etc. This where the supplements come in. Dr. Rubin points out in his books that the soil we use today to grow our foods just isn't the quality it was "back in the day", therefore the foods grown in the soil aren't what they used to be either. Does that mean we shouldn't eat our veggies and fruits? Of course not! Oh, and I'm not trying to defend this Dr. that I don't even know (he could be in it only for the money, one never knows!)...just saying that I agree that supplements are necessary for the majority of us. I'm really liking this thread...:D

One thing about it is that you may not see any results for 12 weeks, according to the package.

When it first started drawing attention last year, the label said to take one gel cap three times a day. Today they allow for taking three at a time, three times a day.

They have already changed their manufacturing of the product since that time, too. It used to be a wild seaweed, now it isn't.

I took it for about six months last year in addition to closely watching my diet and vigorous exercise. I never really lost any weight that couldn't be attributed to diet and exercise.

I can't say for sure that there is a link, but after I stopped taking it, I did gain some weight. BUT this was when it turned cold, and I didn't spend much time outside, not to mention it was Christmas.

I decided to try it once again. I've been on it for about a month. No change.

I do know that the guy at my health food store, who is NOT overweight, was taking it because the Garden of Life rep was giving it to him for free. He was taking a whole bottle a day, which the rep said was fine! In a few short weeks, his pants were falling down. He insists that I'm the only one he hasn't seen it help.

Of course, I wouldn't be surprised one bit about being the only one for whom it did not work. :001_rolleyes:

I will say that I never had any heart palpitations or anything. It didn't make me feel bad.
