My son will start 9th grade this fall and I'm making up his summer reading list.
He's not used to reading adult classics, so I'm wanting to ease him in. He just finished Around the World in 80 Days and enjoyed it, but said it was a bit difficult at first because of the way they talked. I want to help him get used to that. So far I have
Kidnapped by Stevenson and
Robinson Crusoe by Defoe
on the list. Any others you can think of that aren't too difficult but will cause him to pay attention and think?
TIA

My daughter read Sherlock Holmes stories with pleasure at that age. She also enjoyed a collection of Poe short stories.

Has he read the books on TWTM 8th grade reading list? My DS (an avid reader) went through them between his 7th and 8th grades.

The other thing I've done is to do google searches using the key words; 8th grade summer reading or 9th grade summer reading; believe me, you'll get tons of ideas.
