Do your dc do EOC's at the end of their courses? Are they timed? Do you do this for all their classes or some of them? Which ones? and Why? Sorry for the 20 questions, but this is a mandate at the public school and I'm wondering how it plays out in homeschooling.
Thank You,
Angela

the public school students have had to take EOC exams, but I've never heard of homeschoolers taking them. I just read that part of this year's state budget cuts may mean no more EOC exams anyway.

Hi Angela,

don't worry about it -- there are only 3 requirements to homeschool in NC -- keep immunization records on file, keep attendance records on file, and administer a national standardized test at the end of each year. That's it. What the public schools have to do is not relevant to us, as we are contained under the private school arm of the Department of Non-public Education. So no EOG's here! :-)

you can peruse the NCHE website -- www.nche.com (http://www.nche.com) -- for more info.

If you wish to create & administer your own EOC/EOT tests, Ambleside online provides EOT tests through year 5 that you can look over for ideas. Years 6-12 are not completed as of today:

But I do have DS do a Final Exam (time-limited.. not strictly timed, but not take-all-day either!) for math courses. I grade them and file them in case anyone ever wants to see his work. But it's not the official EOC.

about what is mandated by states, etc., I think end of year subject tests are a good idea (but hard to find) and even better are the end of school tests.

My ds 2 did his Swiss exams with end of the year and end of high school exams covering material from the year at first and then at the high school experience and it really helped with his recall of important points of the material.

This would end up being like doing SAT subject tests for every high school subject at the end of 11th or 12th grade.

From afar,
Joan
