I am wondering about high schoolers enrolled in community colleges in New York.

Currently we live in IL but are expecting to move to NY (Nasau County on Long Island) in August.

We have twins in 9th grade. Ds is taking one course at our local jr college and will take one or two more over the summer. Dd is to take one-two courses over the summer also.

For fall semester, Ds is to take General Chemistry and Precalculus at a college in 10th grade. Dd wants to take Italian and a music course.

Does anyone know what the minimum age allowed for teens to take college courses for credit in New York? Our twins will be 15 in April.

Thank you very much for any information you can give me. I emailed SUNY but haven't received a response yet.

SUNY might be accommodating. I have some friends in Orange County and they have found Orange County CC very homeschool friendly. There is a large HS Organization in NY, LEAH, and I know there are many homeschoolers on the Island.

I think if you contact them they will be able to help you: LEAH LI (http://www.region10leah.org/)

my DD is 14 and taking two classes this semester. The school was not very receptive initially. Then we spoke to someone who said to bring her in for a placement test. Her scores were so high they agreeed to allow her to to register.

I THINK they have age 16 as a target but it can be waived.
