I love classical education. It is great for all ages. I am finding it very hard to do this and work a job (29 hours a week) and still educate my grammar student and logic student while educating my rhetoric student. It is TOUGH!! I am looking into The Master's Study http://www.themastersstudy.org/. I am seriously considering this. It is the cheapest classical education outsource in the area including traditional homeschool groups that offer classes in their group (traditional classes).
We do have one grief which is they are currently in yr 2 which means they will be in Yr 3 yr 2010-11 school year. We are currently in yr 3 right now. They use Tapestry of Grace but do modify it so it is not entirely TOG per se but the framework is the same. One day a week of class all day except Math and Art. They threw art out because of funds or teacher. It is listed in the website they have art but I have been told it is thrown out this year. My R son is not thrilled about doing this thing. He wants me to do it all at home. ggrrr!!! It is time consuming!! I barely have time with my two other kids because he takes so much of my time. I am really wanting to outsource Chemistry but just Chemistry through another place is $400. YIKES!! The Master's Study offers this at a much cheaper price. One little hint here with Master's study is you have to do all or nothing. Another pet peeve of mine but I do understand. He would have group discussions and teachers to help him with writing and so on. Their philosophy is that the parent is the teacher and has the ultimate say so on their kids assignments and grade which is a plus in my case.
I wonder if this is too good to be true. Should I even consider it?
Indiana people what do you think? What have you heard about it?
HELP!!!!!
What can I do if I do not do this outsource?
HELP!!

I'm not much help, here are a few thoughts/questions:

I work 30hrs/wk from home and hs an only child. I cannot imagine hs'ing 3. My hat's off to you! I had to start outsourcing a bit in 7th grade. I decided for 9th grade, I was willing to teach math and literature. I don't feel qualified to teach anything else, and I don't have the time to become qualified. What subjects do you feel you have the time and knowledge to teach?

I would be concerned that this is not going to take as much off your plate as you think it might. I would find people who are using their services currently and determine how much parental involvement is needed. Honestly, how much teacher help will your ds get with writing 1 hour per week with how many other students?
Also, about the cost - what is the cost of private high school education in your area? In my area, it is $11,000-$15,000. So, when I think about 4 online courses at $500 each, I see that $2,000 is much cheaper than private school education. While this is very inexpensive, it may leave you with a lot of work that you did not want. I don't know. I also don't know how much work you are willing to do. It sound like more than me. ;)

I find it interesting that your ds does not want to outsource. My ds would also like me to do everything, though he fights me all the time. Go figure! For my ds, I believe that it is fear of the unknown. What about your ds?
I wonder if this is too good to be true. Should I even consider it?

I wish you the best in your search. :grouphug:

I rewrote my post several times in order for it to be somewhat organized. Somewhere, I lost a very important question:
What does the community college dual enrollment program look like in your neck of the woods?
Here, cc is free in 10th grade. We will be taking advantage of that! Ds agreed to it because 2 classes per semester at cc sounded better than full-time or part-time at high school. :D

Somebody mentioned to me about IUPUI high school Span program. I am going to look into that. DH is really not for the Master's Study. He said "not really homeschooling if you are outsourcing the whole thing". He is more for the Dual College/High school for Chemistry and Spanish. He said I need to do the rest at home. He is willing to help. DS really likes that idea better.
He is truly doing better at applying himself and getting the assigments done. I am just not thrilled at grading his papers because I STINK at grading writing.
Lots to think about here...Thanks!! Oh, I have to pay for the dual thing for the college. However it is much cheaper than any other courses put out by homeschool parents. Chemistry class run by a homeschooler runs $400 in my area. There is a mom who teaches Chemistry much cheaper than that in my area however I do not consider what she does high school material. :glare: which is the predictament I am in with DS Bio 2 class with her. I am having to do a lot more labs at home with him and make him do the write ups for the lab which she doesn't think is necessary. gggggrrrrr!!! She told me I am taking this way too serious for high school. I remember in high school I had to do write ups for every single labs I did. I expect the same from my ds.
Vent over.....sorry!!
