What do the little colored envelopes mean to the left of a thread title?

If I go to "My Profile" and then click on all my posts, I notice that each post has an envelope to the right of it. Sometimes the envelope is orange, sometimes "manilla" colored, sometimes a purply-blue. Furthermore, sometimes the envelope is sealed, sometimes it is opened, and sometimes pages are coming out of it.

Can anyone help me translate this data?

Scroll to the bottom of any forum page and you will see the legend. :) This doesn't work in threads, though.
