The KFUO radio show "Issues, Etc." has been cancelled, and the host and producer fired? I can't believe it! I loved that show! It is the only Lutheran presence on major Christian radio here in the Bay Area, and it does us proud!
So ridiculous. I wish I knew what was going on.

First I heard of it. My husband is a LCMS pastor (currently loaned to the Army as a Chaplain) so he said that he will check it out. Could take him a few days.

Goodness, I didn't know Tom Wilkens & Jeff were fired, although I only learned Tues or Wed this week that the show was gone. I can't imagine why. The website said "logistical & financial" reasons. How did you know they were fired? Makes me wish I'd been listening more regularly lately so I would have heard any "last" show(s). I will miss it. It was such a Thinking Christian's show. I first started listening when Don Matzat was the host. BTW, I'm not LCMS but really enjoyed hearing that perspective. I really thought it was the best show on KFUO & can't believe they just dumped it.

I heard from a very reliable source that their home congregation is setting up a transitional fund for them/their families while they look for other jobs.
I agree, it was a thoughtful, deep show.

There is an online petition now that you can sign. http://www.petitiononline.com/Issues/petition.html
Here is a blog talking about it too. http://talkingdonkey.wordpress.com/2008/03/18/issues-etc-gone/
This seems petty at best & raises so many speculations & suspicions.

We live in Japan and this show was a tremdous source for our family and covered such a wide variety of topics. As someone on another forum put it...it was the "Laperson's Seminary." Here's another forum and some blogs of interest that are keeping up with it. Its not just Lutherans that are effected by this cancellation. The show managed to reach a wide variety of people.

I have no idea about other Lutheran synods, but my dh's family are all WELS, Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Our pastor left the synod (actually asked to resign because he went to Promise Keepers) years ago and we followed him after researching and disagreeing with the fellowship doctrine. Basically as WELS, they can not recognize others as believers, can not pray with others, so when we get together with DH's family, they really are not supposed to pray with us, worship with us or even recognize us as believers. It has made our family (meaning dh & I & our children) stronger in our faith and Christians, but I think it's strained things in Dh's family. We are definitely the black sheep. Anyway, if it's similar in other Lutheran synods, then on air publications could be an issue.
