My dd participated in a scholarship day Saturday where she is competing for a full tuition scholarship. She interviewed with the chair of the engineering department who has also been assigned her academic advisor. The second interview was with a professor from the English department who was very positive about her homeschooling background. She'd like to write them both notes to thank them for their time. I assume these should be handwritten. Any suggestions on what should be included? This is our first time through this so we're not sure how to handle it! TIA!!!

I found a lot of information googling on:

Susann,
I would suggest that she:
1. thank the interviewers for their time
2. mention some specific things that she learned during her discussions
3. mention some special traits of their school (e.g. small classes, research projects, hands on learning, or whatever they are specifically known for) and then go on to say why these things are important to her
4. if she can think of any ways that homeschooling has specifically prepared her to excel in their environment, mention those (maybe she is used to working with coaches/mentors in an extracurricular that she currently does and she can see this being similar to a professor/student relationship on a research project?)
5. if she learned about any research they are doing that she is interested in, she could mention that
6. mention student organizations, sports teams, and/or clubs that she sees herself joining on campus
7. end with a strong statement of how she felt very comfortable there, they have what she's looking for, and she can really picture herself on their campus next fall.
HTH,
Brenda
P.S. My son typed his on the computer, printed them out and signed them, but handwritten is a nice touch, too.

Thank you so much for your suggestions! Brenda, I'm so glad you mentioned typing it out. That is what she wanted to do but wasn't sure if it was alright. OK, now off to pass along your suggestions. Thank you!!
