View Full Version : Do you do WT and R & S grammar?
Or, is that over kill? I really like the looks of R & S grammar, but I'm also planning to do WT 1 next year. If I don't do the writing exercises, would it be good to go with WT 1? What says the hive mind?

and the response was tha R&S would probably be overkill. I'm planning to use FLL3 with Writing Tales and some WWE (just for the narrations/copywork, etc.). If FLL3 doesn't work, GWG3 will be our next choice. I'll see if I can find the thread to link it for you.

Well, how about that! :) I didn't even think to do a search for my question! Maybe someone else will chime in, though. I have GWG and ds does it independently, I'm just not sure it is giving him a solid base, but maybe it is? Rod and Staff gets such great reviews, is a tried and true proven grammar program, has oral review and more teacher helps than GWG. Ugh, I can't decide on anything either! :) I could look at FLL 3, but I have the other 2! I really don't want to spend more on a curriculum if one that I have will work!

Really. If you find that R&S is too much overkill w/ WT1...lay off R&S for a while. OR, just do lessons in R&S that you feel your dc needs review on, KWIM? It would be more work than just a simple do the next lesson sort of thing, but worth it to not spend money on another curriculum. WT1 doesn't cover diagramming ( I don't think) and really just covers basic grammar (again, I think) so R&S would fit nicely to fill in the gaps. I have FLL3 and R&S and I plan to use FLL3 b/c it looks like a gentler approach but will have R&S to fill in those gaps if necessary! Good luck.

My daughter does both R&S English and WT1. We focus on the grammar in R&S and on the writing in WT. For example, in a WT lesson, she will write the copywork, vocabulary and of course the story narration, but the grammar is just a review so we do that part orally.
Of the flip side when a writing assignment comes up in R&S, she still needs to complete it. So far the R&S writing assignments are not that involved, but they cover topics I want her to have experience with, such as a book report.
So far it is working for us and the upside is that I am seeing her become quicker, more efficient and concise writer.

Would you mind me asking how old or what grade your daughter is in? Thanks! Your reply was helpful. I really feel like R & S is the best for grammar, so I want to use it. And, WT 1 is the best I've seen for writing too. :)
