Actually, I canceled Easter with my half of the family. We are still celebrating with dh's half, who are lovely people who laugh and love and enjoy each other.

My Christmas was soooo difficult managing different selfish factions of my family. As a result, I decided to have two Easter celebrations--one with my half, and one with dh's half. That way I would at least enjoy one of the celebrations.

The only reason I even considered going forward with *anything* with my half of the family is because I wanted the various children of the family to have a warm, loving, happy holiday (like dh had growing up).

I won't even go into all the details--suffice it to say that the folks in my half of the family have behaved terribly and been very, very insensitive. Well, why argue with them?

I didn't make a huge declaration or war or anything. I have simply told everyone that it's not going to work out.

It's such a weight lifted off my shoulders! I feel so much better--I should never have offered to host in the first place. In future, I will plan to have my own celebration with the children of the family during the time that I babysit them. Then the holiday itself can be spent with dh's family, laughing together and enjoying each other, and the dysfunctional, unhappy adults in my family will not spill their angst all over me and ruin my holidays.

I'm so glad things will be pleasant and drama free for you!

Sounds like a fantabulous idea!
