Thanks for your posts regarding PH Sci Explorer series. I realized I was in error when I said my dd was going into 6th, she's going into 5th (10 yo).

IYHO, do you think PH series would be too much (rigorous, challenging, over the top) for a 10 yo? Is there a place on the PH website where I could see samples of the life science series? I'm assuming we'll only get thru' 2-3 books a year?

I'd really like my 10 yo and 7 yo working together in science, yet give 10 yo more reading, writing, etc. But, like I said, just wondering if PH might be too hard... thanks for your help! I'll also email you for a copy of the guided reading, thanks for that as well.

IYHO, do you think PH series would be too much (rigorous, challenging, over the top) for a 10 yo? Dh tried Human Biology and Health with ds in 5th grade. It quickly became apparent that it was over his head. Now, Angie W in TX has at least one dd who started the series in 5th and loved it. She is from a science-oriented family. We are not.

I believe Angie has also said that several of the Earth Science books are easier. Astronomy and Weather, I think, maybe more?

Is there a place on the PH website where I could see samples of the life science series? I am not sure. The best thing to do is call the PH 800 number, act really dumb, and ask. I do this all the time. They are very nice. :bigear:

I'm assuming we'll only get thru' 2-3 books a year? 3 books a year seems average for junior high. At least 1 of Angie's kids did 4.

So, I suppose it would depend on your family, your child... ;)
