I've searched for this and come up with zippo. Isn't there a way to pipe a thin line around the edge of a cookie (I'm assuming with something fairly "stiff") and then fill or "flood" it with a thinner icing that runs smoothly to the edges, looking all nice and flat and perfect? Anyone have a recpie or tips for this?
Off to therapy, then coming back to ice the durned cookies which should jolly well have cooled by then.

The last time we iced cookies I just made the icing a little thicker than normal, and used plastic spreaders (you could use the "wrong" side of a plastic knife) to apply the icing. It didn't run and the icing dried smooth and pretty. I guess you could try making a thicker icing, and piping the edges using a plastic baggie, and then use a thinner icing for the middle.
HTH, if not maybe this will at least bump you back to the front where an expert will see it! :0)
I just had a cookie decorating class in my home for some homeschool kids. I spent a lot of time looking for ideas and even made a lap book for it. This site was the best for showing each step in decorating:

Hope this helps!

The thin, smooth, shiny icing you usually see on butter cookies is usually just a mix of powdered sugar and milk. Some people use powdered sugar, milk and corn syrup. And then food coloring if you want it different colors.
