Next year:
Christian light math
Rod and Staff English
Christian Liberty Press Spelling
A Reason for Handwriting
*all of these of these are "do the next lesson" - I do teach however ! :)
SOTW3 with Truthquest AHYS1
Christian Kids Explore Earth and Space w/ extra readings
A Child's Geography

I think I'll just meander through these, after spending some time marking through what my library has, what I've bought, and what I will ILL. I'm beginning to think specific plans are a waste of time, as long as I know I'm basically on track!

I'm not on schedule now, but I'll finish science and history up this summer - no biggie! But I have spent countless hours on those plans and most of the books I picked we didn't end up even reading - they weren't appropriate for whatever reason and we chose other ones. It just seems ridiculous sometimes.

I just tested my daughter with the CAT-5 for 3rd grade. She missed 6 answers as far as I could tell on the entire test. We hadn't even taught long divison yet but she even guessed a couple of those right :). I know standardized testing isn't the end all be all - but it was VERY reassuring to know that we are doing well here.

We are going to start just picking up books at the library bc they look good *gasp* - not bc they are on my plan for the week. I think my overall philosophy is going to be more relaxed... Any thoughts?

Say it isn't so!!!! How will you succeed without lesson plans! Perish the thought!:willy_nilly::eek:

On a serious note, I think your plan sounds great. I do the same thing, plan so much and then realize it really wasn't necessary or that I did something else anyway. As I've gained confidence, I don't need to plan as much. I just make sure we have benchmarks to stay on track.

Well, I'm pretty relaxed...I think there are a lot here who would consider themselves so. I was in the same boat a year or two ago. I put SO much time into my schedule/curriculum planning...and it was pretty much only 1/2 done by the end of the year...if that. We had a better time meandering through lessons. And believe it or not, my dd still learned alot!!:)

You may find some encouragement/blogs/input for a more relaxed/classical method from some of those who posted on a thread I started (if you haven't already seen it) http://67.202.21.157/forums/showthread.php?t=10138

I think your line up for next year looks perfectly wonderful! It'll be fun to see how it all works out for you and your family. It's a journey and process and that can never be dictated no matter how hard we try sometimes!
