Some background: DS who's 2.5 has had some issues with random falling (even from stationary positions), right hand tremors, and hypetonicity (high muscle definition) and slurred speech. These things come and go and are not persistent. His first eeg was normal. His mri showed a spot in the left side in the periventricular space. However, the doc called the mri normal. (?)
We are now doing a video eeg. The doc has requested 5 days. Are we going to be expected to stay in a bed for the whole 5 days? Will my son be expected to be calm and still? Is it painful when they take the electrodes off???
Also, is the doc looking only for epiplepsy? Or something else as well?
Can anyone share knowledge or experiences?
Thanks!

We've been through several VEEG's. They glue several electrodes to the childs head, then wrap it to secure it. They look a bit silly, and my dd says it itches a lot, but it's a painless procedure. They are generally looking to catch the physical episodes on video and the corresponding brain activity on EEG so that they can try to get a better idea of what it happening in the brain when these episodes occur. In our case, my dd does have Epilepsy. If you have other questions, I'd be glad to try and answer them for you.
Blessings,

Oh, a couple more things. For the most part, he will be expected to stay in bed because the video is directed at the bed, but they will disconnect the wires to give him movement/potty breaks. (you might have to remind them though - 5 days is a long VEEG!) He can move somewhat in the bed and they will probably have many things available to help entertain him - games, videos, arts, crafts, etc. Most children's hospitals have volunteers that come around to help with this. If you have things from home to help keep him him entertained (and maybe something for yourself ;)) be sure to bring them.
It is not painful when the take the electrodes off. Sometimes the pressure when they scrub the scalp to put them on can be uncomfortable, but it's not painful.
