I know some of you never went there. Well, we did. And, guess what? Once you start, you're on the hook for all the teeth. Whatever "first lost tooth" stunt you pulled back in your 30's when you had the energy to do such things, you are obligated to continue until the last tooth finally drops out of your youngest child's mouth. Given my penchant for all things fairy, and my lack of long term reasoning skills, I decorated the first little tooth box with fairy dust and rose petals. Thank goodness I had the sense to have only two children!!

It is a little sad, isn't it? No more little sparkles under the pillow. No more flower petals. No more tip toeing in after dark hoping you don't disturb the sleeping angel. No more nasty teeth to collect and replace, when what you'd really like to be doing is sleeping!

My. Time flies. ;)

That is very sweet, Doran.

My kids already know the whole story, so I just buy the things from them now, before bedtime. I'm very sentimental that way. :D

I have one down, one to go! :-) I found that our tooth fairy got more and more irresponsible as she got older! She never forgot to come for the first tooth, but those molars seemed to be a problem for her.

Congratulations on surviving another milestone!

My parents had us put our tooth in a glass of water above the sink. The next morning we would find a quarter in the glass along with the tooth. We got to keep the tooth! And we did. For many, many years. Ick.

The Christmas we went on vacation with my aunt, uncle, and cousins to Florida I lost a tooth and put it next to the sink in the travel trailer in glass. My uncle, not aware of our quirky routine, poured it down the sink. Always resourceful, I replaced it with a shark's tooth collected from the beach. My parents gave the quarter, my uncle added another $1 worth of quarters. We never "believed" in the tooth fairy, Santa, or Easter Bunny, it was just a cool way to get money/presents.

We're lazy parents, lol. The only time our kids got $ for their teeth was when one was lost while we were visiting Grandma. Grandma thinks it is terrible we don't spoil the children, so she does it for us. I figure the 3K we paid for DS's orthodontic treatment and the much more to come that we'll owe for the other kids more than makes up for whatever we would give them from the tooth fairy.

I did go buy some Peeps, Cadbury eggs, and malted chocolate eggs today... just in case there are none left when I go on Monday to buy at a discount. I need my once a year Peep fix. I think they are sooo gross, but I have to have them at least once a year.

There are always wisdom teeth. ;o) (I had mine out at 28 -- thought the tooth fairy should have brought me something *really* nice for those four big ol' things.)

Or the teeth they knock out of their mouths falling off of bicycles or playing hockey or...

;)

I can tease. My poor ds. He's had the same 4 baby teeth sitting in this pirate's chest for *months*:

Awww. How sweet!

(Reminds me of the day last week when my youngest informed me that she is too old for children's programming on PBS. Daytime PBS has been my friend for 15 years now -- who does she think she is, growing up on me like that?)

I'm a terrible tooth fairy. Ds has taken to leaving great big notes on the refrigerator so I won't forget. I've been known to forget for weeks at a time.

What about wisdom teeth?

Mine were extracted when I was 17 or 18. I was still living at home and my mom still put money under my pillow for the wisdom teeth. I think it was a whopping $10.00, LOL. Anyway, I was very touched by it.

Maybe you'll be able to do something for that?

Otherwise, you're right. It is sad.

I had my wisdom teeth out about 7 years ago. I ASKED for the teeth so I could send them home to mama (I knew DH wouldn't give me anything, he was already paying over $500 out-of-pocket). They refused. They said they "weren't allowed."

Not allowed to give you your teeth? That's a load of...aherm.

My dentist gave me my bottom wisdom teeth when they were pulled. I was in the Navy, and they came out in pieces, but they were still mine!

I also took home my placenta when DD was born, but that's another story.

I need to get my uppers out some time in the not-too-distant future because they sprouted through when I was 24-26 yo. They'd better give them to me when they pull them.

I won't send them home to mommy, though!

visited us twice this week. Once she came and took away three teeth because each of my three had lost one. Last night we had another two teeth to take away because two of them has lost one. Last week we had another visit or two. If this keeps up, no one will be able to eat and the tooth fairy will be broke.
My son also decided that there is a money fairy. He puts money under his pillow and expects a present in the morning. We've convinced him he is allowed to do this only once a year, though, so it's manageable.
