Outdoor Water Faucet Question

So, The Littles have been enjoying our weather and have been playing on our patio. There is a faucet out there. I put the hose away today to prevent them from spraying each other with it, but they still frequently turn the faucet on. I wouldn't mind if they didn't turn it on full force and then leave it on. :tongue_smilie:
I saw a screw holding the faucet handle on, and I tried to unscrew it but it ain't budging. I am wondering though, before I get DH to try it for me, if it's okay to take that screw out. I would like to take the screw out and remove the handle so The Littles just can't turn that faucet on any more. Is that possible? TIA

Usually the screw goes all the way through and is what works the on/off bit. You cannot usually remove it. I discovered this when the handle on on of my outdoor faucets broke and I had to pay $100 for a plumber to come and replace it instead of just turning a screw and replacing the handle.

eta: you can buy locking covers to put over the faucets though!
