Not sure what to do this year.... she turns 6 the day before Easter so we will hold off till prob Fri to have her party. (Luckily - being hs'ers - we can do it before the weekend!!)

She's not sure if she wants to have it at a park....or..... have something at home and do an "art project".

Anybody have ideas for either setting? I haven't gone to a craft store yet - I'm sure I could get ideas meandering thru that kind of store.

I thought about having the girls paint a pot or something and planting a sunflower seed but..... wasn't sure about how long the paint would take to dry...and then trying to fill it with dirt - might get dirt stuck in the paint!

I don't know why I just can't be creative this year~ Nothing is coming to mind!

How about breaking up the crafts? Do the painting of the pots first. Put them in the oven on warm - 200 degrees. I think they should dry soon. The main problem would be if some of the kids did really thick globby painting.

Do some other activities: musical chairs? "Pin the seeds on the sunflower"? for a half hour while the pots are drying.

Then bring them out and do the planting.

Or to be safe, you could do the actual planting in some plastic "inner pots" that go inside the terra-cotta ones that you decorate. Then they can be drying the whole time you do other activities, eat and open presents. Just put a big sign on the door reminding you to get them out of the warm oven to hand them to all of the kids before they leave!

If you decide to do the planting/pots... go to Wal-Mart or Target. Both have mini terra cotta planting kits for $1 which include the pot, a soil "pellet" and seeds. (Including some extra seeds to plant in your garden) The pots are perfect for painting, and the soil pellets that expand to fill the pot are pretty mess-free. ;) If the paint wasn't dry enough to your liking (it probably will be) you could send the pellet and seeds home for them to plant later.

You could probably find flower "headbands" at the store right now, since it's so close to easter. (You know, the kind that have petals sticking up all over them, so the girls look like little flowers?)

You could have cupcakes arranged like a flower, or cupcakes with flowers on them.
