I'm looking for a great art history course for my almost high schooler. I'd like something that focuses on an artist and gives background on the artist and the art. Something scheduled would be great. My dd wants to major in art and she is going to need this, so I'd like it to be more in depth than say, something for a child who has no desire to study art and wants to be a scientist (just for example.)

by Calvert School - they have 3 books: Painting, Sculpture and Architecture; check for used copies on Amazon

has a syllabus that uses The History of Art by Gombrich, and I believe Oak Meadow has one as well. I own the former, it was only $3, but so far haven't gotten any of the kids interested in using it yet.

Gombrich's book seems to be a little general, as opposed to discussing specific artists in detail, and it only covers painting. My mom, a former art teacher, thought Jansen's book was much better, as it includes sculpture, but it looks a little more intense, more college level, and it still focuses more on general trends than specific artists.

The nicest (visually) book I own is Sister Wendy's Story of Painting, but I don't know of any syllabi out there to go with it.

Do you know if you can buy OM courses without being enrolled in their full high school program?
