View Full Version : What to do about the brand-new refrigerator?

Our old refrigerator kind of died. We had it repaired once and when it died again, we decided to buy a new one. However, it's still in the garage and seems to be working again.

We bought a new one at a 50% off sale at the Sears Outlet Center. Kenmore. It cost $800 and there was a $75 delivery fee. It was soon apparent that it was not working properly. We could not get the fridge or the freezer to cool down to the proper temperature. I called service. They sent someone out who said it needed a new thermostat, which he didn't have. He said it would be mailed to me, and then I would have to schedule another service appointment.

So, I thought about it, talked with a friend. I went back to the store and said I didn't want a brand-new broken refrigerator. They were very nice. I picked out another one (silly me - almost same model). They delivered it and removed the broken one. This one has a freezer that is too cold and a fridge that is too warm. They are both on the outside edge of normal, even though I have the freezer control set at it's warmest setting and the fridge control set at it's coldest setting. I called service. They sent someone out who said it needed a new thermostat, which he didn't have (sound familiar?). He didn't have one, but I still had the one they delivered for fridge #1 in my possession. He installed it. Nothing changed.

Options:
1. Tell Sears to come pick it up and refund my money. I have 90 days. Will they refund the $75 delivery fee? Use the old fridge in the garage instead.
2. Tell Sears to come pick it up and refund my money. I have 90 days. Will they refund the $75 delivery fee? Buy a new fridge somewhere else. This will cost more :crying:
3. Tell Sears I want another exchange. The 50% off sale is over, but tell them they need to compensate me in some way. This solution solves the $75 delivery fee as they will deliver it free now. BUT, I have to get them to discount another fridge for me. And, I may get another clunker.

Dh thinks I'm insane to be bothered. I think if I pay $800 for a fridge, it ought to work properly. Besides, my ice cream is too hard
