Can someone please tell me what class you get credit for by taking AP Language and what class you get credit for by taking AP Lit. I know you must get a certain score, but I wasn't sure which course applied to what.

Clarification: does passing AP lang give you credit for Eng 101 and passing AP Lit give you credit for AP 102?
What if someone takes AP Lit and not AP Lang.
Thanks in advance,
Michelle

I'm sure it varies from college to college, but our state university gives credit as follows:
Score of 3 or 4 in either Eng Lang or Eng Lit = 3 credits for ENG101 (freshman composition)
Score of 5 in either Eng Lang or Eng Lit = 6 credits for ENG101 & 102
Score of 5 in both Eng Lang and Eng Lit = 9 credits for ENG101 & 102 & 150
ENG 101 & 102 are the standard freshman English Composition I & II courses, and ENG150 is Intro to Literature.

At my undergrad: Lang gives credit for Freshman Comp, Lit gives credit for Freshman Lit. (I think they're really named 'intro to comp' and 'intro to lit')
Credit for English AP varies a bit more by university than Calc ... there isn't as set a curriculum, especially for Literature.

Thanks Jackie and Kiana, I guess I'll have to contact the schools she is considering. The AP Lang essay questions look harder than the AP Lit.

My DS has taken both AP Eng Comp and AP Eng Lit exams. At the nine colleges he has applied to all will accept these test scores and grant a 3 credit English Elective course for each one. They still require that he take their Freshman English Composition course which he isn't too thrilled about. We'll see how it all turns out next fall. His AP English Composition course required so much writing, tons and tons of writing, which is what he needed. I hope that all that writing will make the freshman composition class an easier course for him.
