Does anyone know of a study/unit study on Ancient China that would be geared toward a middle schooler? We've done Ancient Egypt and are working through Ancient Greece and Rome, but would like to include something about the orient.

Have you looked at “The Story of Ancient China” by Suzanne Strauss Art? I think her books are perfect for middle school aged children. After each chapter there are discussion questions and projects. Amazon carries this book.

I've used Ancient China...To the Great Wall and Beyond (http://rainbowresource.com/product/Ancient+China%85+To+the+Great+Wall+and+Beyond+%28K-6%29/024841/1205956870-899396). It's an excellent study. It's written for K-6, but it has a supplement for using with Gr. 7-12.

Denise--

Are there samples of this somewhere?? From the description it looks interesting. I'm just wondering what books does it use? Are there activities scheduled? What else is involved?

Thanks!

There are a few things I found online:

http://www.squidoo.com/ancientchina

http://www.easyfunschool.com/article1684.html

http://www.currclick.com/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=ancient+china&search_filter=&filters=&search_free=&search_in_description=1&search_in_author=1&search_in_artist=1

I don't know anything about these, but I figured I would pass them on. Now I want us to study China! LOL.

I think there are a couple of samples in the link above at Rainbow Resource. Here's a link to the book at Christianbook.com (http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=650501&event=1016AAR%7C584424%7C1016#curr); it has some samples as well.

If those don't answer your questions, I can pull my book out tomorrow and try to help you out. Just let me know.

Some of the other books we used are on my Amazon list:

Amazon list (http://www.amazon.com/Ideas-for-Studying-Chinese-history-ages-6-14/lm/1XHCU8PVLXH9K/ref=cm_lm_byauthor_title_full)

There's a rough plan for a China study in the side bar of my blog (address in siggy). Page one is how I spreadsheeted them to go together; page two is a (somewhat messy) list of resources.

Best wishes

Laura

I was looking at the samples for this (shown here (http://www.christianbook.com/Christian/Books/product?item_no=650501&event=1016AAR%7C584424%7C1016#curr)), and just wanted to give a heads up about the approach taken.

Much credence is given to an identification of the legendary Emperor Yao with Noach - it is an interesting hypothesis, but there is not solid evidence (that I know of or have seen) to support this.

Archaeologists theories about the Peking Man are referred to very disparagingly.

The authors clearly take a Young Earth Xtian approach.

I have only seen the few pages shown, but this does appear to be an interesting unit study - just do be aware of its approach before purchasing it to be sure that it meshes well with what your family's worldview (or that you are prepared to discuss the differences!)

(And thank you, Denise, for letting us know about this resource!)

Denise--

Would you mind sharing a list of the books the unit study uses? I'd like to see if my library has them (or how much it would be to buy them) before I order it. If it's too much trouble, I understand. Thanks again!

Thanks to all of you for your suggestions; it will keep me busy looking through them.
