Just wondering if anyone is or has used WP for Highschool? How do/did you like it? Is it complete or would I need to add in more? Is the language arts complete or would I still need to add more to it?
thanks,
Gloria

I didn't use it, but I looked at Quest for Royals and Revolutionaries (?) pretty thoroughly and ordered a few of the books. I liked the text they use for language with high school (Brit lit) but it was mostly snippets of things, as most texts are. I think some of the reading is definitely GBs, the kinds of things I wanted for my son. But some of the reading is quite simple, too--I chose not to use it b/c ds decided to do 20th Cent instead of the 3rd year of the 4 yr rotation.
It looked like a lot of reading, and I wasn't convinced on the writing, but bear in mind this was 3 years ago, and they have changed out some things. Black Potatoes, and The Real Revolution were sort of "in between middle school and high school" books, although they were clearly written and engaging. I didn't really want to spend so much time on British history--I do think the Brit Lit selections are quite good, but I don't know what kind of commentary it all comes with, or about the writing assignments.
Welllll...we are using Quest for Royals and Revolutions this year along with The Great Courses World History.
WP is light. Very light. The history is disjointed and is JUST reading. No questions, no meaty assignments. There is some decent mapping, but the 'extra' assignments are pretty juvenile. I really do not think it is high school worthy, although we are using it for 10th. I have a few other History texts laying around and I supplement with those.
I chose not to use their LA because it is not complete works and I plan on using SL for British Literature. We are using the Literature portion of SL's Core 200 this year which I feel is more than adequate for my average student.
I wouldn't recommend this WP course for HS.

Gloria,
I would e-mail and ask for a sample of a couple of the High School level programs. I have seen samples of several of the lower level programs, have done AW and AS 1, and have Ancients for 4th-6th grade on my shelf, but they change the independent pages based on grade level. I can't remember ever seeing a sample of the High School level pages to tell how much work and what type of work the child is doing independently. They could be assigning a lot of writing/research to make up for the lack of comprehension/discussion questions. If not maybe that is a way to modify the program to make it more High School level?
Though like SL the focus is to engage the child first, and be academically demanding second. Thus they will choose a lower level book that is more interesting over an original document. I would bet that overall the level of the books used are lower than those suggested in WTM.
I have never used or really looked too much at their LA.

It's listed for Jr. High / Sr. High, which is a pretty broad age range IMHO. Their book list is not quite at the high school level if you compare with Sonlight, Beautiful Feet, Veritas Press, etc., but perhaps would be fine if you have a struggling student or some other motivation that requires less depth.
We're on the brink of keeping transcripts, and my fall-back options for the future are My Father's World and Veritas Press right now.
