I know you cannot store potatoes with apples or onions, but are there other rules?
The Kenmore site claims high humidity is for lettuce and leafy vegies. Low humidity is for something with a skin on it--apples, oranges.
Can I store the onions and the apples together and the potatoes in the other bin? Does it matter where the celery, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, tomatoes, or grapes go?
I usually keep the potatoes in the downstairs frig, but I have more room in this new frig, and it would be nice to keep some potatoes upstairs.
Thanks!

I try not to store onions with anything else (except maybe brassicas like cabbage, broccoli, etc.) They transfer their taste when they exude their gases (which makes things ripen or rot faster).
I actually don't put onions, potatoes or fruit in the fridge at all. I keep upstairs potatoes in a cupboard. Onions, garlic and shallots in a little basket on the counter. Fruit in a basket on the other counter.

Do not store the apples with the onions. I don't even like to put them in the same frig, let alone the same drawer. The onions release something that ripens the apples. They will spoil. We learned that at a nearby orchard a couple of years ago when we were apple picking.

I like the idea of putting the onions on the counter. That will solve a lot of problems!

Ditto on the onions and potatoes (unless it is a cut onion). I think they do better in cool dark DRY places. It depends on the fruit for me and how soon we are going to eat it - some fruit on the counter (esp. bananas), some in the crisper.

in my pantry. Separately though!
Apples stay out too for that matter. I just put them in a wire thingamajig! I have learned also that the smaller apple that I get the longer that they seem to last!

from forming on the potatoes. Haven't tried it, but I think it was a Food Network suggestion or perhaps Martha Stewart. I'd keep onions separate from everything, though.

Don't store apples with carrots in the fridge. Apples will make the carrots taste bitter.
