my dd is in public school for the first time (9th grade) all college prep and honors. She has used IEW since 5th grade. In most of her classes, she has written several papers, usual req. is 2 pages. Anyway, she has made 100's on all of them. In one class she was to do an outline, 2 rough drafts and then the final paper. Well, she turned in the outline and the first rough draft and got 100 (the teacher said for her not to do the 2nd rough or the final as the first draft was "beautiful".

I had been worried about how she would do with her written work but she seems to be doing just fine. She did tell me that a whole lot of the other students have a lot of problems writing a paper (I guess they were not taught how to write in middle school !) . Next marking period, they have to write much longer papers.

Again, thanks IEW.

I'm so happy to hear this! We're using IEW writing this year for the first time (3rd & 4th graders) and are loving it. I love Andrew Pudewa and so many of his curriculums. I'm glad to hear your dd is having so much success. Kudos to her! :D

How wonderful! I'd be interested in knowing exactly which IEW products you used, and how much writing she did in the middle school years. Thanks!

That's good to hear, as we dabbled with CW, then moved to IEW last year due to time issues, as I had a feeling dd would have to go to school this year. I still have Storm use the tools from IEW when writing papers, but it's hit or miss, as she gets nailed for using too many dress-ups--lol. We need to work on her personal writing style, and I plan to continue working with Storm over the summer months using the IEW high school Progym program. I need to dust off Shrunk & White, and have Storm read through the text because she's as wordy as her mother. Grin.

Rhonda, to answer your question:

We used Student Writing Intensive level A along with some extras Aesop's Fables, Fairy Tales, Writing Trails in American History, Writing Trails with Men of Science. She took about 3 years (5h, 6th 7th) of writing every day mixing and matching the above materials.

For her 8th grade year, she used SICC (Student Intensive Continuation Course level B )and also wrote every day.
I had heard too many stories of high schoolers (both public school and home school) that can not write, so that is why I really emphasized the writing. She really liked the IEW program.

I also remembered all of the writing that I did in high school and especially in college so I did not want her to be scared of writing.

Did you use the TWSS? I would love to be able to get the whole program, but I do not think that I could afford it all:(

We are going to get all the way through Unit 8 this year (hopefully!) and will be using Ancient History lessons next year. I'm going to be really increasing writing instruction next year. (DS will be in 8th. DD will be in 7th.) It's good to hear of the success of IEW.

I certainly hope it's doable with just TWSS, because that's what I'm using. :) My children did not care for SWI-A. I think plenty of people use just TWSS with success. The TWSS video instruction really is excellent.
