My dd would love to avoid chemistry next year and do geology instead. Can anyone suggest a textbook or **other resources** for me?

I just bought a series from The Teaching Company (it's on sale right now). The combo of Nature of Earth: An Introduction to Geology, and How the Earth Works.
When I received the starter info (via email) it had lots of sources you could pull together to make a full course, web sites and books. Also, I have called TTC before when I've ordered a course and asked them which textbook the professor who recorded the course recommends. Often, the professor's lectures will tie right in with whichever textbook he/she recommends.

After completing A Beka Biology in 9th and a disastrous year of Apologia Chemistry in 10th, it became clear that my daughter, my last student, needed something different for her last two years of high school. While she did reasonably well with the A Beka Biology, she disliked the way Apologia is written and looks. Since she had completed the sciences she had, I was searching for a Geology program for her too. What we settled on is a used college textbook. Since it is an older edition, we got the book new, at a great price (I believe I paid $4 for it). There is an online support site with quizzes and other resources:

We also found a gently used lab manual to accompany it.
I also picked up a used college Botany book for her to use in 12th grade too. Although she might be attending a community college part time and end up not using it, it was another small investment for an interesting book. I founf online support for it too.

Bob Jones Earth and Space science is listed in their catalog as an 8th grade course, but you could certainly use it for 9th grade. It is NOT for the timid. We are using it this year without the DVDs; I wouldn't recommend this though. It is a very detailed study...and there are so many activities/experiments that one couldn't possibly finish them in a school year.
