If my 6th grader only gets to lesson 80ish, can I just go ahead and move him on to the 7th grade book. We just had a tough year and he is just a bit behind. However, he has done excellent with the program thus far, and does not find it hard at all. I have not seen the 7th grade book, other than the samples online, so I am not sure if it reviews past concepts well.

Thanks

No, I would not recommend this. It is very common to be a year behind in R&S grammar. I'm planning R&S grammar 7 for my soon-to-be 7th grader next school year. It is very, very thorough, and since R&S grammar builds upon itself, I wouldn't recommend skipping books 6, 7, or 8. I'm thinking of doing R&S grammar 7 over 2 years; it's just that dense with information. I would keep working through book 6, and then move into book 7 when you get there next year. If you wanted to speed up the process, you could skip all of the writing lessons, assuming you have another writing program or you are comfortable with his current level of writing.

:iagree: We are a little behind this year too, and I was considering the same thing as you, but have decided to just finish our current level, and start the next one when we are through with this one. It's better to go slow, than to miss something.

:D I agree with Unicorn agreeing with Beth! :iagree:

Don't worry about the grade level on the front of the book. Put some duct tape over the 6 if that will make you feel better!!:001_smile: Rod and Staff is tough, rigorous and builds on itself. My advice would be to keep on keeping on to the end of the book.

I also agree. We made a cross country move this year, and we are also behind. If you have to go into next year to finish the book before beginning level 7, so be it. My two oldest used R&S books that were two years below grade level. They are both doing just fine. Both have one several essay contests at the local level and a few at the state level. The oldest is in college and received a fair amount of scholarship money. Your dc won't be harmed by going a little slow with R&S.

FWIW,

I'll add my :iagree:.

The 7th grade text is a marked jump up from the 6th. I'd make every effort to finish the gr. 6 text this year. You still have a few months to go. :001_smile: (Unless, of course, you end your school year earlier.)

I agree with the others. My dd was not quite finished with Level 5 last year, so she did it at the beginning of the year this year. She ended up moving on to Level 6 in October. She was able to skip several lessons in Level 6 (because they were review), and still finish it within the school year. She hardly skipped anything at the end of Level 6, though, because it was ALL new material. I wouldn't skip anything. And, I wouldn't rush him to finish this school year. Just finish it next year, and move on when he's done.
