To solve this by completing the square
x^2-14x+33<0
I want him to have the first step be
x^2-14x<-33
He wants the first step to be
x^2-14x+33+16<0+16
I know that both methods result in
X^2-14x+49<16
but I think it is important to isolate the x terms, but I can’t explain why. One obvious reason is a greater chance of error in his method, but I feel like there are more important reasons. Maybe I am wrong.
What would you suggest?
Thanks,
Kendall
