I've been searching this board, trying to determine my history curriculum for next year. I will have a 2nd grader and kind'er (both boys) next year. I would like to cover American history, using good books (with a spine). But would also like to include crafts and projects to make it more hands on. I recently came across Truthquest history and the Time Traveler Series. I like the commentaries from Truthquest and the activities from TT Series. Does anyone have any input - any likes, dislikes, experience with either. And how do these differ from SOTW and AG?
...then there is Winter Promise too. Oh, the list could go on!
Thank you for any input.

and covers American History using lots of "real books". Never used it myself, but it gets high reviews from the MFW Yahoo group of which I am part. IF I didn't have older dc, I'd be using it w/ my ds7 next year. MFW recommends using Adventures if your oldest is 2nd grade (perfect for you!) but skipping it and going w/ their 5 yr. cycle if your oldest is older than 2nd grade.

The issue with TQ is scheduling. Some people feel comfortable with going with the flow (like TQ recommends), some people want more structure. You can bring structure to it lots of ways: divide up the pages by the number of weeks you want to spend, use the VP cards, follow your spine, etc. You'll have to correlate all the activities yourself. Also realize that a lot of the books TQ lists are oop and going to tempt you to buy more great books than you can imagine, lol. ;)

If you like the commentary, it's worth getting. I'm not really keen on the commentary, but the booklists revolutionized our approach to history. Dd, the history nut, just wants me to leave her alone with TQ and a room of books and call it history, hehe.

and it works out great! We use the laid back book basket approach, and do history projects of choice during productive free time. TQ and an activity book sound like they may be a fit for you.

I have some TQ schedules on my blog if you are interested.

I have the Time Travelor series and I believe it would be a great addition to Truthquest. I add it to Tapestry of Grace and it meshes very well.
