Help. My dh ordered Apologia Biology, after reading good reviews on a hsing website, but without asking me to check in with you all. He's reading it now, he doesn't like and we're not going to use it.
What else? We want a full intro biology course with a CD, student book, teacher book etc (we love the DIVE CDs, fi).

I really like Campbell's Biology: Exploring Life, published by Pearson/Prentice Hall. You can get the text, TE, lab manual, and CD-rom used fairly inexpensively (the TE tends to be harder to find and more expensive than the text). The CD-rom works on Windows up to XP, but not Vista or 7.
I ended up buying a "package deal" (text with CD, lab manual, & workbook) directly from Pearson/PH, since new copies are much cheaper from the publisher than they are from Amazon or other retailers. It was only around $100 for the package, and I then emailed the customer service rep and was able to get access to the online materials as well. (I bought the TE used.) My son is very sciencey ~ and I am decidedly NOT ~ but we've both found the Campbell book to be really excellent, and Campbell's college-level textbook is the standard for many AP and Intro/Bio majors courses.

Hippocampus biology uses Campbell's Biology book, if you read the syllabus (go to course view): http://www.hippocampus.org/Biology

Someone on this board also mentioned a Miller/Levine Biology text from Pearson as well. I previewed it and it is excellent. Can't remember the name of it right now. Just do a search for biology.

with online access (bought new from publisher). I also have a study guide for another Campbell's book with answers for mult choice/essay questions. I would have much rather have someone put this together for me like Apologia but I couldn't stomach Apologia and I couldn't find another ready made lesson curricuclum.
I did continue to look after we implemented this one - I think Hewitt's might have something but too late for us ... we're on our way. :glare:
