What do your first grade girls like to read? My dd really wants something to read that is just hers, not what her older brother gives her, and I am having trouble finding things at our library. It's not very good. Any suggestions?

Pathway Readers
Amelia Bedelia
Barbie chapter books
Oh gotta run, I'll add to the list when I can... :001_smile:

Well, they're hardly classics, but dd loves the American Girl books.
She also likes "Ivy and Bean", "Cobble Street Cousins", "Sister Magic", Ramona books...

I'll bet your librarian has tons of ideas. But then again, they will probably suggest those "reality" series I can't stand--the kind like Junie B. Jones.
See what she's interested in--folktales? Animals? Fantasy?
What is her reading level?
We loved lots of different books like the ones already mentioned, plus easier titles like
Mr. Putter and Tabby
Henry and Mudge
Sarah, Plain and Tall
The Cabin Faced West
Look at the readers at Sonlight and Winter Promise. Here are some that are recommended by WP for 1st grade:

My dd has really loved the literature recommended by Sonlight. You can check their recommendations on their website.
